Quote from: Aurorum on 2007-01-08 00:30:01 If Hypatia is considered saint -- or, at least, has been selected as saint material --, why not also include Dawkins and Sagan?
Why isn't Hypatia's "picture" below Darwin's?

She is a Virian saint, as you can read here - http://www.churchofvirus.org/wiki/StHypatia
I also think that each saint should have their own private page instead of merely being placed above one another (as being a saint it is a lot more dignified).
As for Dawkins and Sagan, I think that they are still up for nomination... But Dawkins (I assume that you mean Richard Dawkins) must be dead before becoming a saint, as to become one you have to be dead anyway.

I would like to change the way that Virian saints are illuminated. St. Charles was illuminated by fiat, I declared Darwin a saint when the CoV was founded. St. Hypatia was illuminated by Meridion vote. Now I would like saints to be automatically illuminated when they meet two conditions: 1) deceased, and 2) their Meridion reputation surpasses some threshold value (to be determined).
Since reputations fluctuate over time it would probably be a good idea to build in some hysteresis so we are never in the situation where someone's sainthood changes on a daily or hourly basis during illumination. I'm thinking something like a threshold of 8 for illumination and 7 for de-illumination (extinguishment? ).
The only barrier to making this policy change in the short term is that reputations for the two current saints are relatively low (7.09 for St. Charles and 6.69 for St. Hypatia) due to lack of voting. Should we wait until the reputations are higher or should we lower our standards for now and raise them later? I'm inclined to wait (and in the mean time encourage more voting).

I would like to Nominate George Orwell. Everything I've read that he's written has been exactly the sort of message the CoV would like to say.
Down with Fascism. Down with Censorship.
as well as the various Big Brother aspects of 1984, and the Evil Authority of Animal Farm.

I've given this some thought and I don't see how this helps. By the time someone has a reputation above seven we have already voted. If the vote succeeds it is redundant. If it fails it is inconsistent. Am I missing something?
