Re:The Sky Calls to Us « Reply #2 on: 2009-10-07 16:36:30 » The 10-15 year estimate comes from Shane Legg, a former colleague from a2i2, now at The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit in London. More details in Shane's blog post. The quick summary is that advances in advances in neurobiology are leading to advances in machine learning which lead to a better understanding of the neurobiology forming a positive feedback loop. If hardware continues to improve at the same exponential rate it has been for the last 30 years, a project to really implement AGI will be able to start in about 10 years.
