In elementary school, the first time I was allowed to print instead of writing cursive, I NEVER went back. The only exception is my signature which is forged in cursive - and not so neat cursive but with all the distinct strokes. I just always figured if something was really worth writing down it was worth printing as intelligibly as possible . . . all else was superfluous. While my father has beautiful cursive handwriting . . . I never saw the point myself, although I hope we preserve the resulting writings for scientific sake if nothing else. I do think its a dying skill. I can tell how old people are by how badly their handwriting is. I know my penmanship barely scored higher than a C on a good day. Much of what these younger kids scrawl when they do would be a D+ at best. They really should stick to their keypads/boards in my not-so-humble opinion. Even when they are just LOLing, or simply asking WTF? at least there is no legibility issue to compound the already obvious problems.
