I have just, with my Geek Travesty, been holding a mirror up to
the words and actions of certain unnamed members of this list, and to
certain unfortunately bad-faith events that have recently transpired
here. If those who cannot help but see themselves in that mirror do not
like the reflection they see within, it is within where they must reach to
change that visage, not without. Ugly is ugly, either with a mirror, or
obliviously and with willful cluelessness without one; it is just that one is
spared both the face that is turned, without the camoflage or delusion
that accompanies self-concept, to others, and the knowledge which
begets the opportunity to change that face for the better, both within
and without. Who here would prefer to forsake Socrates, and live the
unreflective life? I would think that the desire to understand the
memetic influences that channel our lives, that is, the purported reason
that people join and remain on this list in the first place, would be the
very antithesis of such a desire. Why be afraid of incomfortable facts or
where sound and valid logic applied to them leads? If one is proven
wrong and advances because of an obstacle of falsehood that one
removes from oneself, then that is a GOOD thing, isn't it?
