Also posted at http://jimi.springsips.com/~bolverker/public/?q=blog/5 I have taken lately to arguing some pretty strange and extreme positions on everyday political topics, not because I necessarily believe in them, but because I find them interesting arguments that leave people wondering whether I am serious. My favorite is of course abortion. First I start out by telling people that I'm a godless babykiller, . . . no wait, that's actually a mild term because actually I believe that abortion is moral and should be legal up until 18 years of age. Of course that doesn't mean that just anybody can kill your kid, it comes down to the biological parents (unless they have given up their rights somehow). Before 18 they live in a state of nature (tipping my hat to Hobbes). It also works well with the voting age, indeed some may postulate that the "right to life" coincides with the right to vote making everything more simple. I also think it will help out in getting kids to respect their parents more. If you know mom and dad can decide that your services are no longer needed in this world, it would do wonders for inspiring obedience. Jake Sapiens every1hz@earthlink.net Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.

[Blunderov] Fully in accordance with biblical standards too.

Death for Cursing Parents 1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)

Furthermore children are nutritious and apparently are not subject to the taboos which apply to unclean meats such as shellfish and pork:
2 Kings 6:28-29 "And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow. So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son."
Let us conclude with a prayer <unctuous heavenward eye-roll>
<snip>Oh Lord, please don't burn us, Don't grill or toast your flock, Don't put us on the barbecue, Or simmer us in stock, Don't braise or bake or boil us, Or stir-fry us in a wok...
Oh please don't lightly poach us, Or baste us with hot fat, Don't fricassee or roast us, Or boil us in a vat, And please don't stick thy servants Lord, In a Rotissomat... </snip>

....i would lower that age from 18 to say, 14. but otherwise i am in full agreement. i recall my mother telling me, "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it"! of course she would be the last person to ever do such a thing, but she illustrated an important concept - that if i go "sour", she is the one that put this plague upon society, so she shall be the one to remove it. the only caveat is the question of the mothers reasoning and sanity. suppose she were a religious fanatic and discovered that i was "living in sin"...which to her was an unforgivable crime. this is the problem.
