I think an interesting component of this is a desire to have a surviving humanity that operates on positive memetic principles...
empathy, reason and vision
Actually, I would argue that a surviving humanity will only come as a result of these three things as survival memes - the opposites lead to closed-state thinking, which damps itself down towards entropy.
In fact, when I first went nuts on the things that led me to the word 'memetics', which led me to the Church of the Virus, it was because I could only see things in terms of information cascade.
Positive Information Cascade can be followed, encouraged, helped.
Negative Information Cascade (entropy, apathy, dogmatism, hypocrisy) can be hacked.
