What are your music genres?

I was just wondering what people in the CoV listened to. Maybe I can get some insights on music I have never heard of before. Personally I'm into the metal movement. I think that it is the outmost expression of the rebellious movement. Excluding some commercial bands, lyrics are well written and always seem to be written poetically wise, contrary to most pop bands. I mostly listen to Cradle Of Filth, it's a British band who combine Classical music with heavy or death metal, providing black metal. If you listen to the band, do not judge them without reading one of his song,( I recommend Bathory Area, from Cruelty and the Beast). Another artist any atheist has to listen to is Trent Reznor and his band Nine inch nails, specifically the song ruiner from the downward spiral album, or the wretched from the halo_fourteen album. His music is called industry, is like a fusing of techno, electronica, with metal music. He, by the way, influenced the music of one Marilyn Manson, the portrait of everything America hates, and he loves it. Also listen to Pisschrist by Fear Factory, on the album demanufacture, a great "where is your god" song. This is mostly what I listen to. I like classical music, I don't know that much but I do like it.

I listen to a wide variety of genres, different types of rock, a little classical, some techno, some metal. I second the King Crimson recommendation, and maybe something like Dream Theater which is a type of progressive metal i suppose. Another band i really enjoy is the Mars Volta. They have a very unique sound, but i don't really know how to categorize them. Maybe progressive rock, i'm not sure.

What's an example of goth metal? A metal band i really like is Nightwish, and they've been described as power metal and gothic, but i doubt they would count as goth metal.

I personally don't like Nightwish that much, the music is good but I can't stand her voice for the whole song. I mean Rhapsody uses chorus, Cradle of Filth uses a soprano, but not for the whole song. But I have lots of friends who do like Nightwish. To me it doesn't sound like power metal, is more of a goth, if it can be called that. Advice for progressive metal listeners, Look for the song "To mega Therion" by Therion. This band makes death metal as I found out later on, but they made one progressive song you guys should really listen to, it involves almost every instrument, Piano, violing, guitar solo, trombon etc. Don't buy the album thinking it's progressive, believe me it ain't, but the song is pretty cool. P.S. The new Dream Theater album is awesome (Train of thought)

I can't mention much goth metal, I don't know any bands with exactly known for that genre, but manson and nine inch nails are two good examples of industry metal. Static X is another one, ministry, stabbing westward and in some way orgy. There should be others underground but I don't know much of them, if somebody knows more industry bands that I didn't mention please let me know.
I like punk but to a certain extent. I like the rebel part but don't always connect to the in your face style of punk, I like it though but not as much as the poetic way of other genres. They are artist usually unveiling rebelious sentiments, but I can't mention any bands, I don't know much of punk.
Prog rock, classic rock, most types of metal (bar death and nu metal), punk, symphonic rock, Industrial, indie, some classical and some world.
My favourites are Rammstein, Kraftwerk, The Beatles, In Extremo, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Against Me!, Pixies, The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Breeders, Nine Inch Nails, Prem Joshua, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, David Bowie, The Decemberists, The Arcade Fire and Neutral Milk Hotel. I'm pretty sure I left someone out, but meh.
