I own the old seventies version on remastered DVD rom.  I understand that there is a newer completely redone movie based on the same book that came out in the last year or two.  Which one did you see?

Love,

-Jake

BTW, the last time I visited Walter we both watched the seventies movie, which was filmed in large part around the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex in addition to Seattle.  As I remember it, we both thought it was pretty good.  Of course I would since I own it.

Love,

-Jake

btw, Lady Z. . . has anyone ever explored the actual physiology and biomechanics, or even simple physics of pounding sand up one's own ass    Perhaps we can invent some tools for such a past time? love and space monkeys, Jake

I don't know about the new one, but I saw the original Lathe of Heaven movie which was made for PBS (!) back in the seventies, and thought it was great.  It's the kind of thoughtful story that lends itself to the *cough* PBS style of filmmaking.  It's also a very easy story to translate to film, despite its philosophical depth.

If there's a new version I will have to check it out, though I wonder if modern  special effects would make the story better or worse.  The made for public TV version managed to derive a certain power from the Dr. Who-like starkness of its technique.

What is it about? Sounds kinda religious.

No, not religious. In the movie the title is taken from a book written by one of the characters. He explains that the title comes from what the ancient chinese called dreams IIRC.

We enjoyed the movie last week, but thought it was a bit slow. I haven't read the book.
