[David] Interesting discussion going on in KMO's blog>>

[Hermit] Interesting use of "interesting". Can you explain what about the linked page you find most interesting? Aside from the obvious use of emotional laden but evidence bereft adjectives to lead mood, and the error of imagining that agnosticism (the doctrine that the attributes of the gods are unknowable) speaks to the same subject as atheism (without belief in gods), I mean. KMO has been doing both since forever and becomes annoyed when somebody disagrees, if I recall correctly. And I probably do.

[Hermit] Even more interesting use of "discussion". Can you explain who you perceive as the discussion being between? Reading the linked page I was irresistably reminded of the sound of one hand wanking. Except for the brief but brilliantly illuminated mental image of Richard Dawkins exposing himself in KMO's general direction.

Kind Regards

Hermit

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg, 1999

OK, what Hermit said is largely true but that's why I found it interesting. I was genuinely surprised by the vitriol aimed at Dawkins and the other so-called "new atheists" by members of this group who call themselves agnostics (presumably because they don't want to be associated with atheists) even though none of them believe in god any more than Santa Claus (which is to say not at all). It seems they think Dawkins is an enemy of secular humanism. His passionate defence of his beliefs is considered "too strident" and "polarizing". He is even (to my great frustration) called "fundamentalist" and dismissed along with the evangelists by this group that apparently pride themselves in being tolerant and inclusive.

What do you think?

[Blunderov] I've just finished The God Delusion and it's magnificent. I suspect that this is why Dawkins has atttracted such ire. The theists are on the defensive.

All sorts of disparagement is being heaped on Dawkins' head by theists. They are stung."We don't believe in a man with a beard on a cloud anymore ho ho" is a popular current evasion of the charges he has brought to bear.

Actually though, they still do. Or want to.
