It was almost exactly 10 years ago that the first message was posted to the Virus mailing list, reproduced here for your illucidation and edification:

I think we should start off by revisiting what it is that we think we are creating. What is a religion/integrated philosophy composed of? What should Virus look like? -- David McFadzean dbm@merak.com Memetic Engineer Merak Projects Ltd.
I'd like to take this (more or less arbitrary) opportunity to start a thread to look back on the last 10 years and to look forward to the next 10.
Well allow me to congratulate (& thank) you for creating this amazing meme! You know you have a DJ for the Anniversary party when COV turns 1001! RawR!
...i will not hide the fact that i am a small bit hurt by the fact that my arrival went unheralded. =-(
sure, ive been a bit lame as of late...but it's a passing phase. besides, for those who do not know, Walter Watts is just a semi-literate cocker spaniel that became somewhat self-aware in 1993. he claims he escaped from a dog show a few years prior...and now that most people here are new, he figures they don't realize he's just a former show dog turned armchair psychiatrist and "pharmacist" - meaning he mixes his kibbles with warm water AND hamburger. oooooh, i'm soooo impressed! i'm fucking sick of this bullshit.
Any man "sick of bullshit" that keeps digesting bullshit, by choice, is most assuredly full of bullshit himself. B.

Happy 10th birthday CoV! A hearty congratulations and thanks are in order. Congratulations for fostering an environment where logical debate is valued and a thank you to Lucifer for presenting all of us with a forum to discuss the very things that lie hidden within the constructs of society and all that it encompasses.

Thank you for getting this thread back on track.
To all, what are your favourite episodes from the past 10 years? Which debates did you find most interesting/useful/enlightening/engaging? Let's try to dig them up in Javien Forum (http://tinyurl.com/4roum) and save the links in the VirusWiki.
....having just read Bill McKinnons response as well as this one, i'm left scratching my head....is it possible that through the typed word, my poor attempt at humor has been terribly misunderstood? just for clarification then: Walter Watts is NOT a cocker spaniel....he is a human of course. Walter does NOT eat kibbles (with or without hamburger)....and as far as i know, has NEVER been to an AKC dog show. He is indeed a pharmacist and has never, in my knowledge, been sincerely called an arm-chair psychiatrist. But most of all i want to restate this fact: Walter W. is NOT a cocker spaniel.
cleaning up another toxic spill;

Just dropped by and saw this thread. It's amazing for a website to last 10 years. Truely amazing. Good work there, Lucifer. I hope this place continues to grow and is always a great place for philosophical debate, mind-expanding ideas, and most of all great people. I miss you all very much, and I hope as life settles down for me, I'll be able to be more active. Long live the CoV! And remember... Think for yourself, question authority.
