I'll go meta on this:
What makes this a successful declaration of intent?
a) Walter is part of the community. There is a certain weight to his
words. As we scan information coming towards us, _trust_ is an
important component. Our previous connections to him as a speaker on
this list mean that we accept this warning.
b) scurycatology - while not laugh out loud funny, it is wry and
humorous enough that we accept it. And in accepting it, we accept the
memory of this email.
c) memetic vacuum - it creates a space in our heads, a context, for
coming information.
Hey Walter - can I help? let's talk about it offlist, and then I can
layer in information to my own posts. As I do, the brains watching will
be suspicious of where our two messages intersect. This suspicion, this
area of watching for connections, is a great example of
multidimensional language.
