This topic came up in September, but I just now noticed it in the memetics list.

This was getting good.
"Not at all. I don't won't the government to take care of my kids, but
I'd like the head of the government to be trustworthy enough to watch my
kids for a minute while I run to the store."
"Er, honey, we don't know any of these people." I winked back, "None of
them are going to watch…"
"Doesn't matter," she said, "women want someone they can trust."
That's good enough for me.

...i think people should be allowed to choose their doctors and surgeons
based on the same criteria. e.g...."hmmn, i like that guy second from the
right...he has good posture, and cute dimples when he smiles...im sure he'll
be able to perform my bypass surgery perfectly!"
...or perhaps prior to checking off your vote for president, there should be
another multiple choice question asking your rationale for choosing whom you
are about to vote for. if they answer wrong, like : "A. he seems like
someone i could enjoy having a beer with."...then their vote is immediately
tossed in the garbage. but if they answer correctly as in: "D. i largely
agree with his/her interpretations of how are freedoms should be taken away
or granted, our countries economic planning, how to communicate successfully
and effectively with the rest of the worlds nations, and how to best guide
our immensely complex and intricate nation and it's citizens through the
next four years with the encouragement of maximized freedoms, prosperity,
and supportive legislation for ALL our diverse people." ...the vote would be
counted. of course all choices would be of equal length but playing upon
the same theme. the question could be agreed upon by party representatives,
with the wrong answers being written by the opposing party.
just a silly thought.

That reminds me of the very annoying fact that a lot of people vote for the guy who seems most like an “average Joe” rather than the guy who seems most capable of actually leading the country.
