[Blunderov]

Dear David:

'Well I logged on to the BBS this mornin'
But my chickens wouldn't lay,
Logged on to the BBS this mornin'
But it wouldn't let me play -
Everythin' is broken
And gettin' in my way.
Blunderov, po' Blunderov, ...'

And so forth.

I can log in to the main BBS page ok. (Somewhat to my surprise, I
discover there is a message of welcome to our newest member
'squooker@mweb.co.za'- that's me! I'm him!)

But whenever I open another page I suddenly become a guest again. I
reformatted my system recently, installed SP2 (and firewall) and I
almost never allow cookies anymore. Is it possible that my Virus account
no longer recognises my machine, or my IP, because of this?

Best regards.

Bingo. You need to accept a cookie to remain logged into the BBS.

[Blunderov] Thank you David. All is now sweetness and light.

Walter: My new fragrance is essence of wolverine. I am determined that
the crackers will not, if I can help it, avail themselves of my
bandwidth.

I was amazed to see, courtesy of the 'Black Ice' firewall, the number of
attempts that were made, on a daily basis, to access ports on my
machine. Apparently these guys are especially on the lookout for
broadband accounts that they can exploit in order to bypass caps imposed
on download volumes.

Some useful (free!) software that I found:
look@lan
http://www.lookatlan.com/

This software will trace the route of an IP that is showing an unseemly
interest in your machine. Doing this a number of times in a row seems to
encourage the cracker to move on.

Best Regards.
