Just as Americans celebrate Independence Day on July the
Fourth, “north of the border,” Canada observes July the First as
the anniversary of their independence.

The Dominion of Canada received the right of Home Rule from the
United Kingdom on July 1, 1867. Although Canadians immediately
started observing July first as a special day, the date wasn’t
officially declared a national holiday until 1879 under the name,
“Dominion Day.” Over the years, Dominion Day has been celebrated a
variety of ways including numerous cultural, artistic, and sporting
events along with fireworks displays in most major Canadian cities.
In 1982, the name of the holiday was changed to “Canada Day” and
the holiday continues to be an observance of national pride in all
things Canadian – including fine Canadian whisky like Canadian
Mist!

This year, Canada Day falls on Thursday and Independence Day in the
U.S. is being observed on Monday, July the fifth. To us it sounds
like a good reason to celebrate an extra-long weekend. So here’s to
the birthdays of two great nations!

Canadian Mist Backyard Party Punch!
Here’s the perfect drink to celebrate any summertime holiday!

Backyard Party Punch
750-ml bottle of Canadian Mist
16 oz. grapefruit juice
8 oz. fresh lime juice
2-liter bottle of ginger ale
Lime slices for garnish

In a punch bowl half-filled with ice, combine ingredients and stir.
Garnish with lime slices. Note: Canadian Mist, grapefruit juice and
lime juice can be combined ahead of time and stored in
refrigerator. Add ice, ginger ale and garnish when ready to serve.
