[Blunderov] It looks to me as if Dubya's getting boxed in. If he was hoping
to shift the election focus to domestic affairs he may find his work cut out
for him there too. I read that there was a demonstration and blockade by
truck drivers in the US the other day. (How French!)Some operations are now
not breaking even because of the high oil price.

(Add to this that if Fahrenheit 9/11 is released closer to the election than
it might otherwise have been, it could have a significant effect.)

Crisis hits Saudi oil industry as al-Qa'ida claims slaughter of 22
<excerpt>
Traders warned that oil prices were likely to rise this week in response to
the latest attack in the kingdom, the second in a month. Prices have slipped
in the past fortnight from a 13-year high of $41.85 a barrel, but a renewed
surge is expected when markets reopen tomorrow, taking them back above $40
and bringing the prospect of the £4 gallon of petrol closer. In America,
where the oil price is a hot electoral issue, the prospect of steadily
rising prices will be viewed with dismay. </excerpt>

[Blunderov] If it comes to the public attention before the election, THE
DRAFT may not be exactly an election winner either:

Draft dilemma

They are going to reintroduce the draft in the US. But it's such a vote
loser, no one wants to mention it...

"Check it out at www.congress.org. For some reason no major news networks or
printed media in this country are carrying this story. If these bills go
through, the only thing between me and military service is my asthma."

He's right. There is pending legislation in the American House of
Representatives and Senate in the form of twin bills - S89 and HR163. These
measures (currently approved and sitting in the committee for armed
services) project legislation for spring 2005, with the draft to become
operational as early as June 15... </snips>

[Blunderov]Kerry must be smiling. You don't often get a game that almost
plays itself but it seems to me he has got one here.

Best Regards
