You start with $1000.00. You have three months to create a business that is not running at a loss. It doesnt have to show a profit for the first year. It should be entirely legal and something that brings you enjoyment. Ideas?

Brings *me* enjoyment?  Or you?  Or some hypothetical
person?  I can throw out random ideas/suggestions, or
I can daydream about what I'd do.  Tell me the purpose
of the question, and I'll give it a try.

The quickest way to profit at that budget, however, is a kiosk retail shop in a mall.  For fun, you could try novelty sex items.  That's good for a kiosk because it rarely justifies a whole store in a mall...

Depends on your location though.  In New York, for example, there are big franchises for that sort of thing, and you wouldn't last at a kiosk.

Running a business is, in and of itself, enjoyable if you like being your own boss.  You can always put your best effort into the areas you enjoy, and hire people for the rest.

At $1000, you could do anything.

Some businesses don't require a lot of money.

For example, consulting, real estate, and job placement firms can all be started from home, easily and with little/no overhead over normal living costs.

I guess I'm doing something a lot like this right now.  I'm running a hosting business.  It's been up for a few days now and I already have some customers.  My plans are to start turning a profit in 2 months time.

Which BTW, if you read this Lucifer, I've been trying to get ahold of you on IRC for a week now to let you know not to renew my account for hosting whenever the time comes up next month.

I hate e-mail.  It's not personal enough for my tastes.

True.

COV should start a cov.meetup.com subdomain...

But I think we need at least 20 people to email meetup.com to request it.

And then we'd need to expand membership to at least 10 people per major city.

And for that, I honestly feel we need more specialized controls on the email system, and a more rapidly expanding WIKI, which I am not currently able to do myself.

So email----->email.

[Blunderov] I do believe I have found one.

("There is Thingumbob shouting!" the Bellman said,
"He is shouting like mad, only hark!
He is waving his hands, he is wagging his head,
He has certainly found a Snark!"

(Fit the Eighth - The Vanishing))

By the simple expedient of fitting a phono pre-amp in-line between a
turntable and the line input of my computer sound-card, I now have the
capacity to transfer vinyl to CDROM or DVD. (Investment $30.00)

A further investment of $30 acquired for me an incredible program called
Magix Audio Cleaning Lab which is astonishingly effective at removing snaps,
crackles, pops and rumble - in fact quite considerable digital remastering
is not only possible but very easy to perform.

So far I have transcribed two recordings; Pablo Casals RCA 1951 and Kathleen
Ferrier Decca 1960.

The results are better than the original!

Cold canvassing has revealed that many people have favorite vinyl recordings
that they would be prepared to pay about $10 each to have transcribed.

Work from home with minimal overhead! Listen to rare old recordings and add
them to your collection! Seems too good to be true - but so far I can't find
a hole in it. A nice little pot-boiler to provide an urgently needed pension
scheme I'm thinking...

Thoughts?

Best Regards.

I'd buy a dress uniform (I have one already). Then I'd walk door to door makeing sure to stop at all the one's with flags. I'd ask for donations for all kinds of things.  For 1, Claim to be a wounded war veteran, use some crutches or a cast. Disabled Veterans Relief Fund. Fire fighters and any other associated military perfessional looking attire will work. Also bring kids. Always bring kids if you got them. Fire Fighters Orfan's Fund. The possibilities are endless. I could run this gig for a couple months in the states no worries. Capitalism and Jingoism, I am a true American.
