And I thought my explanation would be something y'all would like.  See,
I have this thing about ancient symbolic art, and whenever someone asks
me about my tattoos I have to say something like "I have a thing for
archaeology" or some other lame roundabout answer.  But today I finally
figured it out, I was thinking about this great fossilized trilobyte I
have on a wrist bracelet, and I realized...

Ancient symbolic art is like the fossil of an idea.  Or if you will, the
fossil of a meme.  No wonder I love it so!

Happy to understand my geekery,
Michelle

PS - So far I have 2 of this category (and 1 plus a tiny one that are
not).  My next one will be a faithful repro of a cave painting, complete
with the reds & oranges of rock strata, on my lower back/hips area.

[Michelle] I thought I would poke around and see what's the oldest right
at the time I do it (prob in about 18 mos), and see if the whole or a
section of it made me respond.  I usually take about a year to plan it
(and save up for it), and I just got one in October 2003 (the ancient
coin of Athens c. 350 BCE with the owl of Athena, surrounded by a
pleasing vine shape).

Are you tattooed?

The more I read from you the more I want to meet you!

[Blunderov]I love tattoos - on other people!

While not as old as Neolithic rock art, Bushman rock art is also quite
interesting.

Metaphors of trance

Death

The experience of trance is so overwhelming and so difficult to describe
that people have to use metaphors - that is they have to compare their
experience with some more familiar experience that others can
understand.
In Western society, people use such expressions such as 'a trip' to
describe altered states of consciousness. The commonest Bushman metaphor
for trance is 'death'. They say that shamans 'die when they cross over
into the spirit world, and trance itself is sometimes called half death.

One of the ways in which the artists depicted this metaphor was through
animal behaviour. They noticed a striking similarity between a 'dying'
shaman and an antelope, especially an eland, dying from the effects of a
poison arrow. Both the shaman and the eland tremble violently, stagger,
lower their heads, bleed from the nose, sweat excessively and finally
collapse unconscious. Moreover, an elands hair stands on end, and /Xam
Bushmen spoke of hair growing on the back of a man in trance.

Nope, no tattoos.  I am unlikely to get a tattoo, as I
like flexibility--having a tattoo keeps one from
rearranging the decorations or completely changing
style.

Yours sound neat though!

Tattoos are pre-biotech transhumanism.  Tatoo and piercing culture is important to understand - if you are interested at all in the transhumanist movement.

Good news on the stem cell front (news.google.com?q=cytomatrix)

The thing that I read in that article that wowed me: “hosts don't reject stem cells regardless of DNA match”

So, I could, say, inject ESC's from a nucler-transfer-cloned blue-eyed person into my irises... To get blue eyes.

But if they started replicating and drifting, I might start to take on the personality of that person too...

Heh.

The majik of tattoos is only understood by someone who has one.

so what ever reason you have one is fine.  Im covered in tattoos, When i first felt the needle pass my layers of skin, i thought it was the most beautiful feeling i have ever endured.  I have'nt stopped applying 'em ever since.  Thank the gods for tats.

                                                    Inking you,
