The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind addresses and explores concepts of conciousness, meaning, memes, biotech, and relationships.  It is quintissentially Virian.

It's a brilliant film.  Charlie Kauffman is a genius.

Warning: you really have to pay attention.  Some people I told to go see this said they got “lost”.

The characters, I agree are a bit strong. But the conceptual exploration of the mind is what stands out and is what's worth it.

I really enjoyed the movie and the concept it explored. Certain elements are predictable, but i had no problem following it and didn't get lost.

The female lead, Clementine (Kate Winslet), reminded me a lot of myself when I was a bit younger, about the end of high school to the first few years of university.  Not just the crazy ever-changing hair color and funky clothes, but also being very impulsive, emotional, and headstrong.  I never thought I'd see a movie where I could identify with Kate Winslet so much.

The concept of relationship renewal via memory loss is applicable on a macro level to the transhumanist argument.

Some would argue that we should “hold off” from developing, and/or that our society should “unlearn” potentially destructive technologies.  I liken this ludditism to the erasure of memory.

The conclusion of the film is that it's a waste of time to try to “unlearn” or “hold back” from your relationships.

In the case of anti-technologists, I feel the same way.

In fact, I feel that the fear of technology actually creates and environment of technological abuse - because some people are afraid to share discovery.

Likewise, the erasure of memory made it more difficult, not less so.
