Thousands of people have reported seeing a bright flash light up the sky in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba at around 5:30 pm MT. Some even say they heard a sonic boom. It was most likely a large sofa or car sized rock from space that zipped through the upper atmophere before breaking up. If it was big enough some bits and peices may have even survived entry and even landed. The bet is that some pieces did survive because video footage from a security camera in Calgary parking lot shows one big bright flash of light and then multiple smaller flashes indicating that the meteor broke up into smaller chunks.
An Eyewitness from Edmonton, Alberta sent Spaceweather.com an amazing video, check it out here. spaceweather

I haven't read much about it admittedly, but from what I have they didn't know it was coming? That's scary on so many levels. What if it had been just that much bigger? Or came down on urban Edmonton, or Calgary (where I live).
