Is any one else beginning to discover this? I shall give you a rundown of the death of PC gaming as I'm beginning to find it.

Microsoft and its rolling out of Vista has doomed PC gaming. Why? Direct X 10. The Direct X 10, or specifically Direct3D 10 API, is supposed to push graphics performance to a new level.

But has it?

Indeed, it pushes it to a new level, a new level of shittyness. Even with a GeForce 8800 Ultra, the most powerful consumer graphics card on the planet as of this moment, one cannot even achieve playable framerates on a medium resolution of 1280x1024 (forget playing higher HD resolutions).

WTF?

Any recommendations? If not then I think I will be sticking to console gaming as of now, nevermind spending 3,000 USD+ on a Falcon Northwest rig if it will barely play DX10 games.

Vista isn't optimal either, even if your rig is built for it. Even with DX9 generation games, Vista, more often than not, is slower than XP. Granted, some things such as Lost Planet DX10 has been optimized for the GeForce 8800 (which is something most people don't have) and in some cases the Radeon HD2900XT (something else most people don't have) has equally good DX9 performance in Vista as it does with XP, but for the most part, the frame rates plummet.

And it seems nVidia anticipated this and is prepping the G92, which might be the first video card to retail for 1,000 USD. Fantastic.
