GimmickyNamesBC is here to stay. Er, ToStay

The B.C. government plans to ban a lot of things in the coming weeks.
Trans fats.
Smoking in cars with kids.
Deforestation.
But one ban has received little or no attention in recent years despite its insidious nature.
We are, of course, talking about BanSpacesBetweenWordsBC.
It's difficult to know precisely when, or why, our government developed its aversion to separate words.
The NDP might have started the trend with the release of the B.C. HealthGuide in 2001.
The Liberals, however, accelerated the pace after taking office and discovering a shocking number of holes between words that their predecessors had missed.
The new restraint policy forced the closure of serious gaps between Workers', Compensation and Board. WorkSafeBC was born.
Then, in 2005, the government rolled out ActNow BC to fight expanding waistlines and sentence lengths.
Shortly thereafter, FloodGatesBC opened.
We now have AchieveBC and DriveBC, StudentAid BC and WorkBC. There is Fair PharmaCare and the LocalMotion Fund, BCAlumni Ambassadors and the OneStop Business Registry.
More perplexing, the Liberals aim to make B.C. the most literate place on Earth with a series of programs apparently created by illiterates.
There is LearnNow BC and ReadNow BC.
WelcomeBC offers new immigrants helpful pointers on adapting to their new environment, if not the English language.
And pre-schoolers get a hand up on learning, if not spelling, at a series of StrongStart BC centres.
It must come as quite a shock to the little tykes and immigrants alike when they discover most words have spaces between them.
Even government staffers appear confused.
ActNowBC began as one word in the 2005 throne speech, but has expanded to two words in these heady times of budget surpluses. The reverse happened to StrongStart BC, which began as three words and was later cut to two.
In this year's speech, we were told that TransLink will get new RapidBus lines, that the BC NurseLine will expand (including, apparently, the addition of a capital L that wasn't present in the 2006 speech), and government will launch a new program to battle urban sprawl called LiveSmart BC.
In B.C., it seems you can now LiveSmart and SpellWrong.
