I'm off to Thailand for 2 weeks vacation. If this server goes offline it is unlikely that I will be able to fix it while I'm away but rest assured it will be back shortly after I return.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg, 1999

David, I've been looking at all your pics on Facebook. Great!! The #virus chat channel has been almost dead without you. WW, Sat, and I passed some hellos through loglady before she finally passed out. She's gonna need some smelling salts when you get back. Some US Muslim army dude killed a dozen fellow soldiers +1 army civilian down here in Texas, but I'm sure you caught the news on that. We've talked a little bit about that on the BBS. Other than that, nothing much has happened in your absence. I'd be interested in hearing about your travels when you settle down again. -Mo

Is there any way we can prevent these obviously redundant and completely irrellevant spam messages? I suppose its nice that Meridion keeps them otherwise hidden, but I still get email notices about them which is distracting. I could imagine SOME specifically targeted advertisements which might appeal to our audience, but I would like some sort of way to vet them first b4 we let them into our BBS. Perhaps someone with a high enough meridion rating (7+?) could let a selected few through, and of course individuals who have themselves attained such a Meridion rating could try doing this for themselves and see how the community responds more directly to them. In any case these last two redundant ones don't please me much. I would hesitate to say we should be absolutely forbid ALL advertising, but I think we should have some significant say in who gets in the door this way, and certainly anyone who hasn't "knocked" first and checked with us in some significant way should face deletion.

The easiest form of spam prevention is already in place. You can't post a message without creating an account and you can't get an account without passing a CAPTCHA. This prevents bots from spamming the forum, however there is no (easy) way to prevent a human from spamming.
