This seems like a recurring theme in the #virus channel.  I keep running into someone or another who either is currently experimenting with it, or has in the past.  Perhaps people can post their own experiences about that here.  I am thinking about trying that a little myself, but it might be a bit tricky until I get more control over my schedule.

Love,

Actually I believe I'm the guy who started this after someone mentioned it to me, either a while back, or recently enough, I'll grab my log and post it if ya'll interested?

I'll make it easy, and save some posting space

I'm going to give this a try starting tomorrow morning. I have 3 weeks before school starts (8am on April 7th), and my school schedule will be 3hrs in the morning every other day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) so if I can get this to work for me, I'll be able to devote the inbetween hours of the night to study and rote memorization of anatomical facts, while the rest of the day will be for work/practice.

My plan, at this point, is to sleep normally tonight (10pm-6am) and then start spacing my sleep periods out every 4hrs (a total of 6 per day for you math whizzes). I'll try to spend around 90min total each sleep period, and adjust as my body tells me what it needs. If I feel deprived, I'll increase that to 3-4hrs for one period late at night, but always leave one alarm on my clock at 0600 (which is when I had planned on continuing to awaken every morning for school).

Lukian pointed out a blog to me at http://polyphasic.blogspot.com/
which is a chronicle of a current polyphasic sleep experiment. I will study up on the nature of human sleep cycles some more as I go through this.

Here's a good starting point I think: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/sleep.html

I will keep logs of my results on my website perhaps? Maybe if someone has a blog site they'd like to give me an account on for this?

I really don't recommend the graph on that washington site.
Polyphasing changes that completely,
what you are after is light sleep and some REM sleep.

You normally get 1.5hrs of REM sleep per night.
But I'm pretty sure you don't need all that,
otherwise polyphasing would not work.

You should all wait for Hermit's post on this topic too,
he did it for 16 years.
outlawpoet for 8 months I believe,
and there are numerous weblogs from 3mths-3years.

And then of course famous people such as
Leonardo Da Vinci and Thomas Jefferson polyphased.

search terms? try also "Uberman's Sleep Schedule"

The link to the washington site was more in reference to my desire to learn more about the nature of human sleep than to suggest patterns for polyphasic sleep experiment.

But I'm yawning now so time to snooze... I'll read up some more tomorrow and keep you folks up to date on the experiment.

Thanks for sharing guys,

Keep me up to date on how it is going.  I will check up on it :::Jake checks the "notify of replies" option:::.  If Church of the Virus is to be a transhumanist religion, and if that means we value self improvement even as we realize our lab animal nature, then it seems to me that one's willingness to try these things out to improve our quality and quantity of life can only be characterized as a virtuous endeavor.  I therefore embrace y'alls willingness to share this with us here on the CoV.  I intend to keep up with your trials, tribulations, successes, and revelations.  Thanks.

Love,

-Jake

Thanks for sharing that, Lukian.  I notice how we often rearrange our schedules for people we care about (or perhaps can't avoid as the case may be).  Perhaps we do not really notice how much we tend to do this until we try some undertaking like this.  I wouldn't sweat it too much.  It's not necessarily a bad sign that we do this.  It might simply mean that we share our lives a lot, and that's frequently a good thing.

Love,

I ended up polyphasing and monophasing.
so for now the experiment is terminated,
but not forgotten, when the chance presents itself I will try again.

And if nothing else, Polyphasing has taught me the value of a nap.

Good experiment.  Looks like you were almost there on the 9th day.  Let us know when you try it again.  Is anyone else out there trying this?  Let us know.
