Nice intro!  We do get our share of bigotry and insults, but we hope its more the exception than the rule, and welcome anyone who can help in that regard.

Your religious background sounds interesting.  I look forward to your contributions.  Welcome to CoV.

Love,

-Jake

From http://freegambit.tripod.com/beliefs.htm

Quote:

Goals:
1) As an atheist, to redefine "minister" to include a person whose advice and counsel can be based on secular teachings and principles.

2) To also redefine the status of "minister" as an analogy to a black belt in martial arts. In martial arts, a black belt isn't the end, but a commitment to further understanding and mastery. I see becoming ordained as committing to a path of learning.

3) To interpret, but not limit myself to various non-Christian teachings, including those from Friedrich Nietzsche, Yamamoto Tsunetomo, Lao-tzu, Ram Tzu, and Dr. Lin Yutang in a modern context and to follow them.

4) To exclude certain behaviors present in these teachings that should remain characteristic to ancient times, such as:
a. Violence / War
b. Belief in the supernatural

5) As such, extracting the following as, while not setting in stone, the virtues of my philosophy:
a. Peace
b. Resolve
c. Compassion
d. Knowledge
e. Honor
f. Overcoming
g. Flexibility

Excellent, I think you will find many collaborators here at the CoV. Welcome!
