Unn. It would be good to answer this question. But it's like trying to explain the nature of God to someone; either it's obvious, or they arn't going to get it by reading a few words. Still, I'm game to try. How about:

Consciousness is self-directed thought -- it is an intellectual magic mirror, reflecting not only our current self (gnosis), but also, with training, that which we wish to be.

KMO: I really think we could get somewhere on this if we worked together. The real challenge is to say all that matter without writing thousands of words.
