YouTube - Leonard Cohen - "Everybody Knows"

Lyrics
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died

Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that youve been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows youve been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

And everybody knows that its now or never
Everybody knows that its me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when youve done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old black joes still pickin cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows

And everybody knows that the plague is coming
Everybody knows that its moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But theres gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows

And everybody knows that youre in trouble
Everybody knows what youve been through
From the bloody cross on top of calvary
To the beach of malibu
Everybody knows its coming apart
Take one last look at this sacred heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows

Everybody knows, everybody knows
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
Thats how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows

Leonard Cohen <3
Now I am extra sad that I'm going to miss him on what is likely(?) to be his last tour.

Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) - The world became the world

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es7LREUMdsM&feature=related

The World Became the Word PFM

Outside my window in the courtyard
of the world
The gentle rain was falling.
No breath of wind, no cry of beast or bird
Too quiet, too still, I turned ...
To see the raindrops like a thousand
poet's words
splash their circles on the stones,
Ans seem to wash over everything with love
And for a moment the courtyard heard.

Until the sun came bursting through the clouds
Hung up his rainbows in the sky
And with a laugh of flames said, "Now go
chase the gold"
And the world became the world ...

Now we're all travellers some seekers
and some sought
Who leave the courtyard to be caught
In nets of self, damned certainty and choice;
But do you believe our voice?

You ... you've got what must belong to me,
I need! I'll bleed for more possesions.
You ... you've got no right to disagree
Bow! Kneel! Or fear my aggresions.
Thank God if sometines your oyster
holds a pearl
When the world remains the world ...

The rock band Toto scored their biggest hit with the song "Africa" in 1982. The song is instantly recognizable. But it has been reinvented.
Perpetuum Jazzile is an acappella jazz choir from Slovenia .

You have to have the Volume set high to catch all the sounds created, especially at the beginning.

[letheomaniac] I'm afraid I beg to differ Fritz. Joss Stone has no soul at all. It was surgically removed by her Big Music producer. This "soul" of which you speak is nothing more than a marketing concept created by a zombie industry that hasn't had the decency to stop blundering around moaning "Braaaaaiiinsss". Big Music is just recycling that old school soul sound because they have run out of ideas. The only person left on the planet with any soul is James Brown... oh wait, scratch that. RIP James.

[Fritz]I guess my old geezer wish for the old days of soul music combined with a scantily clad nubile singer got the better of me. Your point is taken .... Fritz hangs head in shame.

Caught Betty and the Bob's at Hughsroom in Toronto last week for Halloween and Wendel Ferguson's rendition of the 'Cottage hymn' and brought a tear for summer lost.

I think this article is good on the argument=war meme metaphor. There are of course other ways to argue, but overcoming that meme is a high priority for civilized discourse, and some people never do get over it so its a good reminder to the rest of us who must continue to interact with them.

Sorry MO, the thread took me to this old gem, but it does support your case I think.
