virus: Impeaching Hermit or Who the funk made you boss?

Dear David,

As a member of the Church of Virus I am writing to object to the manner in
which I have been treated by Hermit.

He appears to have taken nearly full control of this list and the Church's
BBS. There appears to be an cabal Hermit refers to as 'the elect', and he
sees himself as the pope of this particular hierarchy, operating with
impunity within the list and the BBS.

I refuse to be subjected to the sometimes malicious whims of a new clergy,
especially in what is supposed to be a rational church.

For these reasons, please can you clarify Hermit's official role in our
church? Was he elected leader/boss/pope? Does he have the right to
redirect/block mail and kick whomever he likes off IRC (even OPs like me)?
What rules, if any, is he operating under in his official capacity? The CoV
is becoming Hermit's personal fiefdom. This should be profoundly worrying
for you.

Please let me know the answers to my questions above. I need to take a
serious decision about whether I want to be involved with the CoV with an
unrestrained, unaccountable, at times unfair and occasionally bullying
person at the 'controls'?

I might like to remind this list that I am actually very fond of Hermit and
have immense respect for him. That has not changed because of our recent
spat. I knew of his weaknesses and excesses when I first joined this list
approximately a year ago. Every one of us has foibles, it is just that
Hermit's now impact on me because he has been given undeserved authority.

I do not think Hermit is a suitable arbitrator and overriding authority
within the church. He needs to be subjected to rules and procedures. I think
it is time for us to agree some operating rules and fair grievance
procedures.

Could I ask you to put aside your long friendship with Hermit and be as
impartial as you can on this matter. I think the future of this list is at
stake.

Kind regards

Jonathan Davis
