If I'm understanding you correctly it may be useful to cast your ideas
in terms of a complex dynamical systems vocabulary. For instance, if the
interaction of memes is modeled as a connectionist network, then the difference
between the Tab/Slot interaction and Spices-in-the-Soup interaction is
one of connectivity: direct and large influence versus indirect and
relatively diluted influence.
