Oh, David, you just have to have faith. The meme works in mysterious ways.

Seriously, though:

You cannot expect a couple of months on a discussion list with people whom
ones doesn't know and cannot see to counter years of direct physical multi-sense
indoctrination. I suppose the hope is that if memetics/pancritical rationalism/
secular humanims truely is a more useful pattern of thinking isomorphs with
it's structure will tend to bring it to an infected individuals attention more
often than a less useful meme structure like (presumably) Christianity.
Over the years one would expect the infected mind to shift emphasis toward
to former pattern, perhaps only culminating in expression of the virus
years latter.

This does have an analogy to actual viruses like Lambda phage, which can lie
dormant in their hosts until a crisis (usually genetic damage of starvation
signals) whereupon the virus appropriates the cellular mechanisms to
propogate itself.

On the other hand, this provides a too convenient way of explaining away
negative data.

On the other hand, such explaintions are common in scientific and economic
theories.

Hmm...
