They were nearly naked. One of the original specifications of the ritual
was the wearing of shoes and a hat. I knew these guys. Whitworth is a
religious liberal arts college. Lots of rules. 10 pm curfew for women
(none for guys), no dancing on campus, no smoking, etc. It sounds quaint
now... but it had its advantages. I do not think it was nudism as much as
it was rebelion, celebration of being young and flaunting of rules. But it
was not a protest or a statement, just a silly dare. It was over there
after a week. But several months later, I saw the word "Streaker" in a
major periodical. I would have to do more research to determine when the
definition of the word streak of runs naked in public was added as the
third definition. Dictionaries are pretty good documentation of new word
meanings.

I do not know if this explains the distinction?
