Excellent article. I couldn't find anything to disagree with.
I think it is likely that Cupitt would agree with the CoV program
too. Especially the fact that it is a synthesis of science and
religion. And this quote: "If the price of liberty is eternal
vigilance, the price of truth is endless openness to criticism
and innovation." Sounds like selection and variation, ie.
pancritical rationalism to me.
Obviously he agrees there is truth with a small 't' even though
he believes there is no Truth from a God's perspective (and I
agree.) His characterizations of traditional religions and
dogmatic science seem right on the mark.
I even like his re-definition of "faith": the conviction that
we can give meanings to life beyond those generated by a
globalised marketplace. I agree with the sentiment, though that
isn't faith in a biblical or Virian sense of the word.
I can't agree with his "solar ethics" only because I don't
understand what he means. Maybe you could shed some light on
that part?
