In a non-consistent reality evolution would not be possible. The fittest
phenotypes survive. If there was no consistency between genotypes and
phenotypes, the same genotypes could result in different phenotypes each
time (and not "the best ones"). Consistency is driving evolution the same
way as gravity drives a falling rock.

Of course one can also say that evolution does not need any "driving" as
well as a rock does not need any gravity in order to fall.
