#10 Find an un-named *thing* to hang this process on and call it a meme so
that it becomes the supposed cause of itself (I have suggested neurons). (Brett)

Actually, since we are using "memes" to supplant "genes" we should assume
that there is a mechanism within genes which controls for their own
selection. This is a complicated point...we are assuming that genes are no
longer the mechanism for evolution, but that they must evolve
themselves--are proposing a mechanism for genes; saying that genes are not
their own cause. We are saying this because if we say that genes are
responsible for evolution we cannot say that evolution is responsible for
genes without saying that genes are responsible for themself. We are only
asking, then, by *what* mechanism are genes responsible for themself. We
are naming that mechanism "memetics"--a logical progression as we become
better able to find the more subtle mechanisms responsible for supposed
causes...as we go further into the microcosm and ALSO the macrocosm. (...a
paradigm shift).
