Don't forget the "Wealth = Happiness" meme. <Perhaps this is more
prevalent in America>
Side effects include:
1. Lottery ticket buyers: Price of the ticket = cover charge for wealth
fantasy.
2. People in hock to their chins with bumper stickers that say "Whoever
dies with the most wins" or "The difference between men and boys is the
price of their toys".
3. The destruction of alternative sources of satisfaction for immediate
material gain.
* "Spendaholics" who buy material goods even though the purchase will
stress their relationship with their spouses/children.
* Organizations that spend on "image" instead of employees.
* The conservative revolution of the eighties/nineties.
