I thought of a way out of the contradiction:

Let's face it, there are many many many meme's out there. I cannot
possibly expose myself to all of them. Therefore I *choose* the meme
sources that I think will be most benefitial, while maintaining my
awareness that it *is* an artificial selection and I am closing myself
off. There are only 24 hours in a day!
