I think the vagueness has to do with the following :

if you accept the possibility of an autocatalytic set of memes,
then you also accept that that "starting points" in reasoning
are like axioms in maths. You just have to believe in some points.

The very idea of an autocatalytic set reminds me of what we usually
term circular arguments.
