this is my first and final message from one of the silent members of the
group.

I have been in and out over the past three years, and have enjoyed
reading many of the postings. What has been most valuable has been the
guidance to interesting books that have led me to other books that have
led me to some very interesting and complex ideas . . . . . . . (These
involve such things as applying Maynard Smith's concept of Evolutionarily
Stable Strategies to the realm of politics and ideology, and applying
Kaufmann's description of life as a Self-Catalytic Set to the realm of
beliefs and philosophy. These ideas are probably not that original, and
need to be studied and worked on a lot more.)

I am now looking at the messages at work, and that is not a satisfactory
place for me to compose or send messages that match the intellectual
content of the group, so I am going to quit for a while, and expect to be
back some day.

By the way, it has not been possible for me to find Richard Brodie's
books in the Washington, D.C. area. Richard, notify your publishers!
