Tad, please permit me to take the bait:

Memetically, to believe an idea is to have that meme active in your
brainspace. It's because I think of ideas as memes that I can say "My ideas
about the universe are just a structure of memes active in my head, and that
structure changes dynamically over time, and so my beliefs change
dynamically over time as well"

Defining ideas as memes allows me to believe something now, and to preach it
(to transmit that meme) today, while acknowledging that the memes in my head
may (in fact will, to a small extent) be different memes tomorrow. And if
different memes dominate my head tomorrow, then I'll feel myself to think
that yesterday's memes were "wrong". Because as far as I'm concerned, a
"wrong idea" is a meme which would compete with a dominant meme, except the
dominant meme's walked all over it.

Dear oh dear... talking to myself hasn't been the same since I had the
connections between my cortical hemispheres cut...
