Politically negative, rather. The printing press was indirectly
responsible for the destruction of a number of governments, by increasing
the effective intelligence of the population. The modern attempts to
reduce the effective intelligence of the population, while appearing to
educate, seem to be rather successful.

It should be alarming when someone doing well in his major [undergrad]
doesn't have a basic grasp of the subject matter of his major, and a
nonspecialist [I] *do*, *and* can demonstrate this to an audience.
