Good question. Yes, a purpose can (and should) be chosen consciously, and can be transmitted memetically (more often the case). But the Purpose I am speaking of is one that captures the essential energy of a person, produces fulfillment, and is in my judgment, upon deep reflection, the best use of my life. Granted it can take some work to figure this out.

  1. Each of us has a purpose here. When the memes are quiet, it is possible to feel when we are on purpose and when we are off purpose.

This seems to imply that the purpose is somehow separate from all memes. Does the idea of Level 3 depend on this assumption? What if purpose can be chosen consciously and/or transmitted memetically? Where would that leave Level 3?
