oi (racial hate music)
...just to clarify, Oi! is not racial hate music, Oi! Started with 
bands like Sham 69 and Blitz which brought about a fusion of punk 
rock and the sort of rockabilly sensibility present in the British 
teddyboy scene. 
...but as an example of a pernicious meme, the co-option of skinhead 
culture (which evolved out of multiracial interactions between mostlywhite
 british working class youth and rude-boys (jamaican, working 
class immigrants) and grew out of the first wave of ska music brought 
to the UK with Jamaican immigrants.
...this co-option originated with the British National Front (which 
has always utilized the poverty and frustration of the working class 
to further its specifically racist ends) as it recognized the 
potential for recruitment with a nationalistic working class youth 
culture. The sterootyped association between skinhead culture (which 
is a valid expression of a distinct cultural style and class 
awareness) and bonehead culture (which is a particular image fostered 
by white-supremist hate groups because of its hard edges and 
intimidation factor) and further propagated by thinly disguised 
propaganda films like Romper Stomper (australia) and American History 
X (U.S.)
