(1) is true; reason plays no favorites, and will support the more reasonable position, whether it is yours or not (example: the present case, where it supports you not, and you may have to desert it yet again). (2) is literally (scientifically) false. Any truth one might attempt to assign it would be metaphorical (poetic), not literal. "Love for others is the prime motivation for much human behavior", on the other hand, is literally true.
