Another very good science fiction movie that most certainly got a lot less attention than it deserved due to the Avatar 3D Juggernaut. Compared to District 9 and Avatar, I'd count it as light science fiction in that there were no huge leaps of reality, like alien contact etc. It did however do some speculative work about the future of fusion energy, cloning, and artificial intelligence on the dark side of the Moon. It was also a very tight plot with only two real characters: Gerty, the lunar base computer; and Sam Bell, the only human worker on the base. The movie also delved deeply into emotional issues of human-to-human and human-to-computer relationships, loneliness, and isolation. Beyond one minor fight scene, there was very little violence in the movie. There was also a prominent romance/family element in the movie as Sam longs to return to wife he remembers, and the daughter he has yet to meet on Earth.

Just saw this for the first time a few weeks ago. I agree it is an excellent movie!  Loved the crazy plot punchline that I won't reveal here not to spoil the movie for everyone else.
