Lucifer’s Angel
Chris Rea
Blue Guitars
Disc 10 (Latin Blues)

You say I’m still here
But inside I’m gone
Lucifer’s angel
Is singing his song
And you say there’s no reason
For this sad soul to be blue
But that all depends
On what you heard was true.

God in his chamber
Judges in the hall
Lucifer’s angel
Screams a victory call
And say it’s all shiny
Shiny and new
But that all depends
On what you say is true.

There’s a kind of change
That not many will see
Till it’s too late to reason
And the Devil runs free
And you say you are a wise man
And we should listen to you
But that all depends
On what you ever knew.

I see a new kind of winning
And I wish you could see it too
All the rules have been blown up
And they’re laughing at you
You say I’m thinking too heavy
There’s no fearing to do
But that all is depending
On what you said was true.

There’s a knockout a’ coming
Like you’ve ain’t seen before
Lucifer’s gone missing
There’s something else at the door
While you say that I worry
And that fright (?) can never sue
But that all was depending
On what you ever thought you knew.

Fighting with cancer and back to the blues
Following a severe bout of cancer, and a predicted 50% chance of survival after an operation, Rea promised himself that if he recovered, he would be returning to his blues roots. This is what he did in 2002, releasing the album Dancing Down The Stony Road following recording sessions in France and the UK. (An abridged version of the album was later released with the title Stony Road.) The album was followed by a DVD of the same name, comprising a "Making Of" documentary and footage from a concert in Cologne. Rea set up his own JazzeeBlue label in 2003 to free himself from the pressure of record companies and their expectations. Since then he has released the blues albums Blue Street (Five Guitars) (an instrumental jazz-blues album) and the recently released The Blue Jukebox (another jazz-blues influenced album released to critical acclaim). He has recently worked with David Knopfler for two albums, Wishbones (2001) and Ship of Dreams (2004). He is a true supporter of charity organizations and a master painter in his own right.

Blue Guitars
Chris Rea released his final box-set album, "Blue Guitars" in 2005. Consisting of 11 CD's and 1 DVD (Dancing Down The Stony Road), the album is Rea's testament to blues. Each album contains specific songs of the blues genre, and all have been newly recorded and released. The box-set includes colourful paintings by Rea. This album closes the final chapter of Chris Rea's solo career and he does not intend to make any further solo records. He has stated that he will continue to make records with some of his favorite players under the name "The Fireflies".
