What do you do if everyone gets exactly one vote? What would you do if the other two voted for you?

If you initiate violence you can assume that the other two overpower you. Thanks for "volunteering" to save their lives. ;-)
[Blunderov] Somewhat to my chagrin, I think the Politburo may have solved it. She suggests that the thing to do, if possible, is to form an alliance with one of the astronauts who is smaller than you. This will be sufficient force to overpower the other one and also avoid the risk of being subsequently overpowered by the ally. And later, if push should come to shove...
(Seemingly there is some advantage to being the smallest one - you are likely to be offered the chance to survive.)
Note to self: I must be certain never to teach Judy to play chess.
Best Regards.

You know, I keep thinking about this and I can't get past the fact that it is just too situation dependant. --- To unsubscribe from the Virus list go to <http://www.lucifer.com/cgi-bin/virus-l>

First, read Bruce Sterling's "Distraction", and then read http://electionmethods.org.

Quote from: David Lucifer on 2004-08-30 20:51:13 Imagine you are on a space station with two other colleagues (3 of you in total). There is a technical malfunction and ground control determines that you will quickly run out of oxygen. They say that you have no more than 3 days of air left, and it will take at least 4 days to send a rescue mission. You realize that if one of you dies right away, then there will likely be enough air to keep the remaining two alive until you are rescued. For the sake of argument, assume there are no other available options.
What do you do?

I would start with two assumptions: 1) All three of us are rational 2) No one wants to die
From these I can deduce that we would all choose a 2/3 chance of living over a 100% chance of dying. I think I could get the others to agree to participate in a randomized lottery where the two winners get to live to be rescued. Ideally it would be done in such a way that the one loser never realizes that they lost (e.g. 3 sleeping pills, one of which is fatal).
Would anyone here refuse to participate? If so, why?
