I have been working for several months now on just this type of propagation of memes without ever knowing what a meme was or why I had a "missionary complex" when I didn't believe in a religion. I was working on this before I found this website because I enjoy challenges, and deconverting the religious seems to be the only thing that people around me think I cannot do.
Toward this end, I have created a pamphlet (based very loosely on the LDS document: For the Strength of Youth) that acts as a semi-guide for life, giving advice for the "right" way to live as I see it, explaining why I have those views or what I mean by them whenever I think it necessary. I have attached to this pamphlet (after I found the Virus website) the Virian Virtues and the Senseless Sins, giving full credit to this website as the source for them. The problem I am encountering with my peers (I'm a senior in high school, and by peers I mean fellow students) is that no one reads anymore, especially nonfiction, unless of course it has to do with their religion. Most of the people who read what I have written do not care enough about anything to either join Virus, or even listen to what I have to say.
Apathy is the greatest problem we will have when converting fellow agnostics/atheists, and I believe it is one we should try to deal with rationally, although it will be the most difficult task any of us could undertake. I myself have been working on this problem for about a year, and have made some headway, but I'm still a long way from a solution.
As far as theists go, almost none will listen to you (or each other for that matter) because they already think they have the absolute truth. I am also working on solving this problem. Any help with any of this would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone wants to see my pamphlet, I can email it to you.
I like what was said about fear and god. I for one think of god as a Creator aswell as the creation, so I suppose I do belive in God and am a member of this church, although I am uncertain and sceptical about a soul or life after death.
one thing i like to reflect on is how we are unable to imagine a thing without somehow preciveing it first. can you imagine or comprehend a colour without having seen it first? or a taste or sound? or any alternate state of contiousness. So I refuse to be certain of what death will bring or what the nature of god is.
I think somthing like a buisness card would do better then a pamplet or a book. just the name, the web address, and some fancy graphics to lure em in I say. then people can make up their own mind after checking the page. so if you meet someone that is looking for some answers you tell him to check this out.

Atheist Crusader, from one atheist crusader to another, I'd like you to e-mail me your pamphlet too.
Desktop publishing is my field of work. If the Virian Council were to express support for a CoV promotional brochure, flyer or card, I would be willing to assemble it and put out a PDF. The internet is not the only memetic vector out there. Print works.
He believed in a door. The door was the way to... to... The Door was The Way. Good. Capital letters were always the best way of dealing with things you didn't have a good answer to.

There is currently a vote going on that pertains to this very subject (http://virus.lucifer.com/bbs/index.php?board=;action=voteResults;idvote=55, and I think with the amount of responses for either "We could compete with the Latter Day Saints" or "I like this idea" are enough to justify some sort of action. Although 50% have not voted, 97.53% of the equity that has been counted agrees with the proposal in some form, rendering it almost a surety that this would eventually be preffered.
I propose that we take action of this sort starting now, and perhaps even have some sort of thing for affiliated groups (I'm thinking of having some sort of club at my high school).
