Of course, I have already previously listed a number of things I think
that the US has done wrong, or could have done much better, so what
appears to you cannot be what has appeared to everyone else who has
perused this list.
I do not believe, however, that the easily understandable difference in
complexity between a casual, sloppy, imprecise and off-the-cuff remark,
and its studied and careful qualification and correction, is reason to
assume perfidious collusions in a dark conspiracy of silence in order to
shield the existence of any allegedly barbaric and purportedly approved
practices of the US military from the light of dispassionate inquiry.
I do believe that this is what you dearly want to believe.
