Brian,

With regards to Hermits style or modus of cognition.

It stems from strict adherence to critical analyses of formal methodology. A
classical education which is predicated on something more than the
Clintonesque feel good philosophy of "Outcome based education" results in
this methodology. Community colleges are not renowned for graduating a lot
of students with this capacity, merely a penchant for regurgitation of
endless scores of pabulum that they are not required to cognit for
themselves.

It is a big, BIG, SUPERFREAKIN BIG topic in the psychology of education.
The keyword is NEGOTIATED MEDIOCRITY. It is very prevalent among adolescent
developmental cognition, and with the advent of consumeristic education
prerogatives, it places the education system at the disadvantage of becoming
a bilateral transaction. Whereby the adolescent places themselves in a
position of negotiable authority in order to assert power in a process where
this is clearly not there role. This is a result of increased ego assertion
as a result of increased cognitive development and PERCEIVED inequity of
position, power, and social status.

I could ramble on for hours about this, but what I recommend Brian is first
treating yourself to a brief understanding of the domains of development
through adolescence, then the necessary temporal intersections of these
domains with the assigned roles of adolescents in the society at large, and
in the realm of school AS RECIPIENT NOT BILATERAL NEGOTIATOR.

Hermit is the paragon of formalism and critical thinking. Were that all
members of society maintained his perspective and capacity, sanity would
reign supreme. Sensitivity might suffer a bit, but he doesn't value that as
highly as he does personal integrity. A few people in here assert a
precedence of emotions over integrity, at the price of cognitive
cohesiveness. This forum IS predicated on the strict adherence to KNOWLEDGE
and not BELIEF. This is also the foundation of a classical education.

"Why can't Johnny read?" Because the teachers have abdicated their
positional role authority in the classroom so that they can be liked. They
gave up their integrity for the sake of emotional satisfaction. SO Johnny
says that in order for him to like Ms Suzzieteacher, she shouldn't assign
him all that homework. She doesn't. He can't read as well as the rest of his
ecocultural niche. He is habituated to negotiation in the learning process.
His self efficacy is predicated upon negotiating for mediocrity. It is the
mantra of American education. We have tonnes of direct evidence to this very
thing here in this forum.

So when you ask "How did you learn/teach-yourself to think this way", we
hope that you are so doing as to enable a higher order of intellectual
integrity in the forum of Virus and humanity, and possible yourself.

Hermit,
After reading your deconstruction of the
discussion between you and Yash I
have to ask...
  How did you learn/teach-yourself
to think this way?
