I quit smoking in September, with the help of Wellbutrin, which is
also marketed under the name Zyban. I hadn't intended to quit, but
the drug works well... I just lost the desire to smoke.

I know I will be on Wellbutrin for quite a while, for depression. For
smoking you are only supposed to take the drug for 12 weeks, so
it might be easy to start up again after those 12 weeks. Probably
not for everyone, but I found it very useful.

The action of bupropion is to decrease the neuronal uptake of
dopamine in the CNS, and to diminish neuronal uptake of serotonin
and norepinephrine. Side effects include agitation, headaches (I
had headaches for a while), dry mouth (this too, especially when
nervous or under pressure), nausea, vomiting. The most serious
side effect is seizures, which is less common than those
    previously mentioned.

It might be easier and less expensive to procure the drug under the
guise of depression, even if you only want to quit smoking. My
understanding is that insurance companies do not cover Zyban, but
will cover the same drug, marketed as the anti-depressant
Wellbutrin. I think "Zyban" is also more expensive than
"Wellbutrin," even though the doses are the same.

(The usual dose is 150mg twice a day.)
